Taught by a certified Health Education Specialist, this ongoing course is designed to give learners a basic understanding of the human body through weekly topics and discussions. Due to the fact that this is an ongoing course, students can join in at any time for topics they are interested in. The course schedule will include the following: September 11 - November 3: Week of Sept. 11: Health Promotion - Students will comprehend concepts related to health promotion and disease prevention to enhance health. Week of Sept. 18: Analyzing Influence - Students will analyze the influence of family, peers, culture, media, technology, and other factors on health behaviors. Week of Sept. 25: Access to information, products, and services - Students will demonstrate the ability to access valid information, products, and services to enhance health. Week of Oct. 2: Interpersonal Communication - Students will demonstrate the ability to use interpersonal communication skills to enhance health and avoid or reduce health risks. Week of Oct. 9: Decision Making - Students will demonstrate the ability to use decision-making skills to enhance health. Week of Oct. 16: Goal Setting - Students will demonstrate the ability to use goal-setting skills to enhance health. Week of Oct. 23: Self Management - Students will demonstrate the ability to practice health-enhancing behaviors and avoid or reduce health risks Week of Oct. 30: Advocacy - Students will demonstrate the ability to advocate for personal, family, and community health. New topics will be introduced in upcoming weeks. Each week will include activities that help to reinforce the topics being discussed. Students will work together to complete small projects to present to the class. Research and collaboration will be required for these activities. This will be done during class time and will not require outside work or multiple weeks to complete.

No account will be needed for Nearpod.
For the nutrition units, students will use basic cooking utensils and a stove. Parent supervision during this time is required.
For the physical activity units, students will need an open space, proper footwear, a water bottle, and parent supervision.
