Class Experience

High school geometry is the subject taught to students who have already learned basic geometry in Elementary/Middle school and have completed algebra 1. The class involves listening me explain concepts and keywords, and taking notes. Students are expected to work on problems individually and participate in class activities.

The weekly schedule includes topics such as transformations and transformation properties, congruence and similarity, right triangles and trigonometry, analytic geometry, conic sections, circles, and solid geometry. Learners are required to have scientific calculators, writing tools, and basic geometry supplies. They are expected to do their homework weekly and turn it in by sending a photo, scan, or pdf. Khan Academy is used as an additional resource tool, and unit tests are issued on Khan Academy that students are expected to complete.

The course is a full high school geometry course offered in 12 weeks with limited time live and requires hard work and dedication inside and outside of class. Pre-recorded lessons and a free online textbook are provided as additional resources. Learners are encouraged to ask questions on assignments inside or outside of class via messages on Outschool. PDF worksheets are also supplied for each unit. The class pace goes at the pace of the learners, and the instructor waits 10 minutes before leaving the meeting if no one attends.

Weekly Schedule:

Week 1-2: Performing transformations & transformation properties and proof
- Introduction to Geometry, Rotations, Reflections, Dilations, Proofs with transformations, Transformations overview, and etc.
Week 3-4: Congruence & Similarity
- Triangle congruence from transformations, working with triangles, constructing lines and angles, congruent triangles, solving similar triangles, proving relations, etc.
Week 5-6: Right triangles & Trigonometry
- Pythagorean theorem, ratios, solving for a side in a right triangle using the trigonometric ratios, solving for an angle in a right triangle using the trigonometric ratios, sine & cosine of complementary angles, etc.
Week 7-8: Analytic Geometry
- Distance, Midpoints, dividing line segments, & coordinate plane geometry.
Week 9 - Conic Sections
Standard equation of a circle, etc.
Week 10-11: Circles
- Circle basics, arc measures, radians, arc length, constructing, sectors, tangents, etc.
Week 12: Solid Geometry
- Cavalieri's principle, Volume, Surface Area, Density, and word problems.
