Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
This is an ongoing tutoring/study session designed for students who are looking for a supportive environment and a set time to work on their weekly High School Chemistry (regular or honors level 1 based on the US curriculum) assignments from school. Based on the materials they are covering in school, each student will need to send me the materials or a topic list at least 2 days before each session to ensure that I will have time to review the materials and be ready to help the learner. Students will need to bring their homework from school to each session. Students are expected to have a scientific calculator and a periodic table with them as most of the work in chemistry will require these items.

The format of the class will be similar to a study hall where students will work on their weekly assignments from school in the presence of an experienced Chemistry teacher. I will help students one at a time and will rotate between students as needed; students will have the opportunity to ask questions. Students will have the option to work alone or/and to interact with others who are working on the same topic. If students are working on the same topic and wish to work together, I can create breakout rooms for them to work separately from the main room. I will be checking in occasionally; each student will have the freedom to return to the main classroom. This could be a good option for those who are from the same school and know each other, and for those who would like to explore working with students from various parts of the world.

I will be using an online chalkboard, worksheets and presentations to teach based on each student’s need. Depending on the topic, I may also utilize online open educational resources such as educational videos, online textbooks, simulations etc. to teach. I have online quizzes that I can make available depending on the topics being taught.

Please note that this is NOT a 1:1 tutoring session dedicated to a single student as there will be multiple students in class. Students are expected to be able to work independently without extensive assistance.

Chemistry Topics:
-chemical vs. physical changes, density, phase changes, gas laws, thermodynamics,
-significant figures, unit conversion, balancing chemical equations
-atoms, ions, molecules, compounds, chemical naming, chemical formula, chemical reactions
-periodic table, chemical bonds, molecular shapes/VSEPR theory
-molar mass, Avogadro's number, mole-based calculations, stoichiometry
-solutions, solubility, molarity calculations, precipitation

Note:
=>We may go over the allotted time at times depending on the number of students present.
=>If no one shows up in the first ten minutes, I will need to end the meeting.
=>This is a subscription based, ongoing class. You may stop the subscription anytime before the payment [Sunday mornings before the scheduled class].
