Teacher expertise and credentials
Minnesota Teaching Certificate in Social Studies/History
I'm a social studies teacher who has 13+ years of experience in the classroom and over 1500 hours of one-on-one online tutoring. My favorite classes are AP Human Geography and AP World History. I also strongly value intentionally teaching the skills and habits of mind that help students find success.
I majored in both history and social studies education as an undergraduate at St. Olaf College. For graduate work, I received a Masters of Education from the University of Missouri with a focus on Social Studies Learning and Instruction.
I value social studies connection to the real world. Early in my career it meant that I lived and taught overseas for eight years in Hong Kong, China and Monterrey, Mexico. In my classroom it means connections to current events and to the students' world around them.
If I'm not teaching or tutoring, I like to be active. Maybe it's playing ultimate frisbee, running, hiking, or biking. Or it might be in the kitchen cooking or baking; I'm working on a recipe for chocolate cookies with hibiscus flavor. Or I enjoy reading both fiction or non-fiction.
I strive to help students become more confident and knowledgable learners. Let me help you on your journey!
