What's included

1 live meeting
50 mins in-class hours per week
Homework
1-2 hours per week. Learners are encouraged to collect ideas, their own sketches, photos for their projects ahead of class time.
Assessment
Students will self-assess their work verbally with the teacher. We will focus on constructive criticism, how to self-assess, and being resilient in art-making. Learners will also be encouraged to give their peers constructive feedback.

Class Experience

In this course, learners are invited to bring any artwork that they are currently working on. This could be a drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed-media piece, or digital art. Learners are welcome to chat while they work, and share ideas and tips. Learners will have the opportunity to request feedback from their peers about their work and to give constructive feedback. Cara will be available to help with feedback, processes, and challenges as well. Project ideas will be available for learners that are stuck and having trouble finding a project to work on.

Learners are able to drop in and out of this course at any time, so artwork they are working on may be completed in one session, or may require multiple sessions for completion.

The open studio environment often helps artists to be more productive and creative, so this will be the online version! This course is meant to help learners with finding inspiration, practicing problem-solving skills and giving/receiving feedback.

Learners should bring any materials to class that they need to continue working on or start working on a project.

Hello, my name is Cara!

I have been teaching art since 2003 in school and studio environments. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Art from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. My concentrations are in education and painting. I have experience teaching students as young as 3 up to adults. The majority of my in-school teaching experience was in grades 6-12. At my studio, I teach students weekly and also have classes for homeschool students, open studio, birthdays, graduations, and team-building. I love that online platforms allow teachers and students to connect across the world! What an amazing opportunity!

I love to create bright-colored abstract paintings, usually in acrylic or watercolor. I live with my husband and three dogs a short drive from my art studio! I look forward to meeting you!

**Class Policies:

*Please have learners log in 2-3 minutes before the scheduled class start time so that we can start on time.

*All class times are approximate. Class length may vary due to student ability and class size. Classes are designed to be no longer than the time allotted.

*Late/Missed Class Policy - All courses will begin on time as long as one learner is in the classroom. In the event that no students are in the classroom at the assigned class time, the teacher will leave a message on the discussion board and exit the classroom after 10 minutes. Class recordings are available upon request.

***Tardy Policy - Learners who have missed ten minutes or more of the class time should request a transfer. I will lock the meeting after ten minutes so that the students in class are not distracted by late students. Instruction is given step-by-step, so tardiness detracts from everyone's learning experience. I am happy to work with you to try to meet your scheduling needs and want each learner to have an optimal experience!

***I do not check or respond to messages while I am teaching classes. I will respond as soon as I can after class has ended.

*Certificates of completion are available upon request.

*Ongoing classes run from September through May. We will take a break for summer so that everyone can vacation and do summer camps.
