US Grade 3 - 6
Beginner Level
Welcome to Introduction to Wildcrafting! My name is Heather and I will be your guide on this learning journey! Do you want to know a secret? I can talk to plants! That’s right, I can talk to all the plants and trees in the forest, but the most important thing I do is to listen - I am an herbalist! I’m going to teach you how to listen to the plants. How to identify and care for them, when and how to harvest them ethically and how to use them to help your friends, family, and yourself! ...
1 file available upon enrollment-------- What is Provided -------- This course includes a 88-page printable PDF course-book with all of the content covered during the course (see outline above) as well as fun activities to complete outside of class (cut and paste exercises, word searches, recipes, cooperative card game, printable plant ID sheets) and detailed monographs of the plants discussed during the course. The course-book will be delivered in four parts as we progress. I will make sure to give you time to print the materials (if desired) before class so your child can follow along with the material during lecture if desired. They can also work on coloring the "plant of the week" coloring page while listening if they do better with busy hands! -------- Recommended Supplies -------- These supplies will make it easier to harvest and process plants when you are adventuring outside of class. Most of this list will be easy to find around the house! 3-ring binder and hole punch for course materials & Plant ID sheets Glue stick (for cut and paste activities) Crayons or colored pencils (for coloring pages) Backpack or basket for harvesting plants outside of class Gardening gloves Scissors Trowel A field guide for your region (I will provide some resources in class!) Tea strainer for loose tea Storage bottles, jars, or containers (for storing dried herbs, tincturing, and infusing plant material into oil or vinegar) Cotton string or twine (for tying and drying plant material)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
