US Grade 1 - 4
Is your learner struggling to read? While a lot of kids seem to figure out how to read in the early grades, research shows reading does not come naturally. This course is for those students who struggle with reading (maybe even hate it!). We will go through the basic rules of English and phonics in order to make reading words make sense. Each week, we will introduce a new decoding skill, practice that skill, then work on phonemic awareness and encoding. This will help your child make connections between the letters in a word, how to say the word, and the meaning of the word. This is a small group class, with the maximum amount of students set at 5. This allows for collaboration, while also being able to individualize for each learner without taking away from the rest of the class. To go along with each live lesson, students will receive several decodable books to practice the new skill on their own time. These books are great for reading at bedtime! Additionally, there will be weekly optional games and crafts to go along with each unit to further enhance their learning. Our schedule will be as follows: Week 1: The Alphabet - Letters and Sounds Week 2: CVC Words and Short Vowels Week 3: Digraphs and Beginning Blends Week 4: CVCE and Long Vowels Week 5: Hard and Soft G & C Week 6: Ending Blends Week 7: Vowel Teams and R-Controlled Words Week 8: Diphthongs
Learning Goals
Students will learn the basics to reading in order to read every day words at their appropriate level. They will also apply these rules into their spelling and writing.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Georgia Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
I am a Georgia-certified Elementary teacher and have taught 3rd grade in a public school setting for 2 years. I have helped many 3rd graders go from not being able to read, to reading at their appropriate grade level and loving it! I have also undergone basic dyslexia training through my county, which gave me great resources to use for all kids.
