Class Experience

In this highly interactive class, students will learn by teaching Gerald and Piggie (from Mo Willems Children's series) how to do all things Math! They will have opportunities to answer questions that Gerald and Piggie have and develop critical thinking skills. Each class will begin with number identification and counting. By the end of the 4 sessions, students will be able to identify numbers 0-30, and be able to count to 100 by 1s, 2s, 5s and 10s. In Session 1, students will learn the basic shapes- square, circle, triangle, and rectangle. They will also learn and be able to create AB patterns. In Session 2, students will learn the 3D shapes- sphere, cube, cone, and pyramid. They will also learn to identify and create ABB patterns. In Session 3, students will learn to identify and create AABB patterns and learn to add numbers up to 10. In Session 4, students will learn to identify and create ABC patterns and learn to subtract numbers up to 10. Students who can add and subtract through 10 will be given more challenging addition and subtraction problems. I will teach using exercise, powerpoint slides, and flash cards.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello there! My name is Andrea and in the classroom I go by Ms. Annie. I teach classes for young learners in Phonics, Reading, Math, and Spanish. In the future, I may teach guitar and piano classes as well. I have a M.Ed in Early Childhood Education from Grand Canyon University. I have a B.A. in Spanish and a B.S. in Health from Texas A&M University. I have taught Kindergarten for the past two years and I taught Pre-Kindergarten for the previous three years. I was a Spanish tutor in college and play guitar and piano for enjoyment.

I lived in Salamanca, Spain for three months studying Spanish. I have also walked 500 miles across Spain two different times. I enjoy reading, hiking, music, traveling, and TEACHING! In my classroom, learning is fun. It is my experience that children learn best when they have a positive emotional connection to the content. I can't wait to see you in the classroom!
