In this one-time interactive course, students will learn by teaching Elephant and Piggie (from Mo Willems Children's series) how to blend CVC words, recognize rhyming word families, and practice high frequency “sight” words.

Students will be involved in this highly interactive lesson by becoming the teachers to Gerald and Piggie. Gerald and Piggie are struggling to read and your child can help save the day! Students will relate to Gerald and Piggie and have their confidence increased by seeing how much they really know. They will learn as they teach the content! The class will begin with a fun warm up where students will do some movement and review letter names and sounds. Then students will learn two techniques for blending letter sounds. Afterwards, Gerald and Piggie will begin reading some words but will need a lot of extra help. That's when your child becomes the star teacher. This class is for emerging readers.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to "sqeeze" all of the sounds together to blend words. They will learn how to identify rhyming words and create word families. They will learn to identify and use sight words in sentences.

A review page of content covered will be provided. During the lesson, students may use a piece of paper and a writing utensil or a white board and dry erase marker
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Hello there! My name is Andrea and in the classroom I go by Ms. Annie. I teach classes for young learners in Phonics, Reading, Math, and Spanish. In the future, I may teach guitar and piano classes as well. I have a M.Ed in Early Childhood Education from Grand Canyon University. I have a B.A. in Spanish and a B.S. in Health from Texas A&M University. I have taught Kindergarten for the past two years and I taught Pre-Kindergarten for the previous three years. I was a Spanish tutor in college and play guitar and piano for enjoyment.
I lived in Salamanca, Spain for three months studying Spanish. I have also walked 500 miles across Spain two different times. I enjoy reading, hiking, music, traveling, and TEACHING! In my classroom, learning is fun. It is my experience that children learn best when they have a positive emotional connection to the content. I can't wait to see you in the classroom!
