Health: Respiratory and Circulatory Systems
In this health course, we study the anatomy and physiology of the respiratory and circulatory systems, explore several common health problems within these systems, and learn effective strategies for staying healthy.

In this health class, we jump into a more in-depth study than time permits in my course "Health: Our Body Systems ". This course is jam packed with fun facts, illustrations, new vocabulary, and practical strategies for good health. Through presentation and collaborative discussion, students will learn the fundamentals of the following body systems: The Respiratory System -Anatomy of the respiratory tract and protective structures. -Basic function of the respiratory tract. -What’s in the air we breathe? -Common problems such as cough and cold, Asthma, smoking. -Good hand hygiene practices, increasing lung capacity, saying no to smoking. Circulatory System -Composition of the heart, important structures, and cardiac function. -Important vessels. -Circulatory cycle. -The four heart valves. -Circulatory problems such as congenital heart defects, murmurs, heart failure, hypertension. -Heart-healthy diet and life practices. As class time allows, the class will participate in content review games using Kahoot. Some classes move at a fast pace when students are grasping concepts quickly, other classes have more discussion and less time for these games.
Learning Goals
Students will develop a basic understanding of these human body systems as well as the location of many major organs and their functions. Students will explore several health problems and learn the importance of proper health practices for maintaining good health through adulthood.

An outline for note-taking will be loaded to the classroom. Materials for the optional extension activities will be common household objects and will be listed on the instruction sheets.
