In this health class, we jump into a more in-depth study than time permits in my course "Health: Our Body Systems ". This course is jam packed with fun facts, illustrations, new vocabulary, and practical strategies for good health. Through presentation and collaborative discussion, students will learn the fundamentals of the following body systems: Intro into the human body. The Integumentary System -The three layers of skin and their functions. -What makes skin colors different among people? -What makes hair textures different? -What lives on the surface of our skin? -Skin changes- erythema, cyanosis, hematoma. -Skin Abnormalities- dryness, sun damage, acne. The importance of sun protection and good hygiene practices. The Digestive System -Abdominal organs and digestive process. -Accessory organs and their functions. -The role of stomach acid. -Common digestive conditions like Celiac and Chron's Disease. -Importance of a healthy diet and healthy life style practices. As class time allows, the class will participate in content review games using Kahoot. Some classes move at a fast pace when students are grasping concepts quickly, other classes have more discussion and less time for these games.
Learning Goals
Students will develop a basic understanding of human body systems as well as the location of many major organs and their functions. Students will explore several health problems and learn the importance of proper health practices for maintaining good health through adulthood.
