Teacher expertise and credentials
Aloha from Hawai'i!

My name is Nalani Thielk and I am excited to be a teacher on Outschool. I currently live on the beautiful island of Maui where I love to read, garden, dance, enjoy nature, and of course, go to the beach every chance I get! I have a son and a daughter, who were both homeschooled through high school, but now attend nearby universities. We LOVE spending time together whenever we can.

My credentials include a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Hawaiian Studies from the University of Hawai'i and a teaching certificate from BYU-Hawaii. I have been a certified elementary school educator for over 20 years in the State of Hawai'i, specializing in the inclusion classroom model, where diverse learners, including learners with special needs, work together to achieve their goals. I have also taught 4 of those 20 years as a Hawaiian Language Immersion Teacher.

I believe children are the leaders of tomorrow. They come with their own unique sets of strengths and weaknesses, and with hopes of learning in a positive, safe, and engaging environment. I value each child I have the pleasure of working with, and strive to uplift, encourage, and guide each one to realize their highest potential in the time I am given with them.

Some of the classes I am excited to be offering on Outschool are:
1. Hawaiian Language Parts 1-4 - Students will learn the Hawaiian alphabet, basic vocabulary, and simple conversational phrases in these introductory classes. They inadvertently learn a lot of Hawaiian culture in the process.
2. Hawaiian Language Private Lessons - One on one lessons in Hawaiian, tailored to meet the needs of individual learners.
3. Hawaii; How the Islands Came to Be-myths, legends, science - Students learn all about Hawai'i's creation, including two myths and detailed facts about volcanoes and plate tectonics.
4. Native Hawaiian Plants, Animals, and People - Find out how we all got here to Hawai'i and where we came from.
5. Letʻs Visit the Islands of Hawaiʻi - Students will take a tour of the 8 main Hawaiian Islands and find out about some of my favorite places to visit on each island.
6. Culture and History of Hawai'i for teens - A 3 or 4 day course packed with information about traditional Hawaiian culture, the monarchy and overthrow of Hawai'i, and modern day Hawai'i, including plants and animals.
7. Story Time in Hawaii - A series of 30 minute classes, in which I read aloud locally published picture books.

Please contact me if youʻd like to take a class, but donʻt see a day or time listed that meets your needs. I am generally available Saturday mornings and summers.

Send me a message if I can be of any assistance or answer any questions. Thanks for checking out my profile page! I'm looking forward to seeing your child in the classroom!
