In this exciting, one-time class, students will discover fascinating facts about a key figure in Egyptian history - Hatshepsut. She was unique in that she ruled as a pharaoh. Information about her was hidden by the rulers who followed her and it wasn't until archeologists began to investigate that the world found out more about this part of Egyptian history. For children who assume all pharaohs were men, this could be a very interesting discovery. Class Structure: - Students will be able to share what if anything they already know about Hatshepsut or other Egyptian pharaohs - We will review how a timeline works and write important date from the history of Egypt on the provided timeline - Learners will learn a bit more about how archeologists work and how they discovered Hatshepsut's Temple - We will take a photo/virtual tour of the temple and learn about her life and significance - Students will have the opportunity to share their favorite fact from the lesson This class will be very interactive with a variety of multi-media supporting knowledge acquisition. students will also have the opportunity to interact with each other as they discuss what we are learning and share their thoughts. No background knowledge is necessary, just a desire to learn about Egypt and it's unique pharaoh.

A timeline of the Egyptian history that students will write on will be provided prior to the lesson and can be printed out.
