US Grade 3 - 6
Welcome to the Harry Potter book club! This is a 7-week book club running throughout the summer months, we will meet every Friday for 45 minutes. This can be a great way for students to engage with literature, build reading skills, and foster a sense of community with their peers. In the class, I will introduce the Harry Potter book series. I will be highlighting the themes and characters that make it so compelling. Students are encouraged to ask questions, share their thoughts and opinions, and engage in group discussions. A book club is meant to be a fun and enjoyable experience. Reading and discussing Harry Potter with their peers can be a great way for kiddos to make new friends and create lasting memories. I will be using slides to help guide the discussion since my teaching style is very visual and I want my students to feel immersed in the world of Harry Potter as much as possible. I personally loved the Harry Potter books and am very excited that I get the chance to read them again with new friends! The class breakdown and chapter selections are below, and the chapters will need to be read in their entirety before the class where they are to be discussed. Students are welcome to read their own copy of the book or a library copy. Listening to the audiobook is also a great way to read these selections. Week 1: Students will create a Harry Potter journal to use throughout the class and we will discuss the first 2 chapters of the book. Week 2: We will discuss chapters 3-5 and add to our Harry Potter journals as new characters are introduced. Week 3: We will discuss chapters 6-8 and add to our Harry Potter journals as the plot of the story is starting to take place. Week 4: We will discuss chapters 9-11 and add to our Harry Potter journals about how the characters are developing and the conflict of the story. Week 5: We will discuss chapters 12-14 and add to our Harry Potter journals about how the characters are developing and the climax of the story. Week 6: We will discuss chapters 15-17 and add to our Harry Potter journals the resolution of the story and a summary of the story. Week 7: We will discuss the book in its entirety as well as make a craft to celebrate the end of our time together.
