Happy Plates for the Emerging Chef is a twice-weekly class that encourages young chefs to see their kitchens as places of endless possibilities. Day one covers lectures and no-cook appetizers, while day two is a hands-on cooking lab.

1 hour per week. In this course, chefs will document their culinary journey by taking pictures of their creations and recording their recipes, ultimately crafting their own personalized cookbooks. This way, they’ll leave with not only skills but also a keepsake of their culinary accomplishments!Certificate of Completion
At the end of the session, chefs will proudly receive a certificate of completion, along with their kitchen caddy and personalized chef hats, as a testament to their hard work and growth throughout the course.Class Experience
This class helps young chefs see their kitchens as places full of possibilities! Meeting twice a week, the first day includes fun lessons and easy, no-cook snacks, while the second day is all about hands-on cooking in the kitchen lab. Students will get their own chef hats, aprons, and kitchen tool sets to bring out their creativity and boost their skills as they learn.

Basic Kitchen Safety – Understand and follow essential kitchen safety rules, including handling utensils safely and practicing good hygiene.
Ingredient Familiarity – Identify and learn about common ingredients, understanding how each one contributes to a dish.

Welcome! Safety First / Let's make Smoothies
Discuss the importance of safety in the kitchen: proper handling of knives, using appliances safely, and cleaning up spills.
Teach how to wash hands correctly and sanitize work surfaces.
Introduce the concept of safe food storage and avoiding cross-contamination.
Discuss the importance of teamwork and following instructions in the kitchen.
Students will make their own smoothies by choosing their favorite fruits and mixing them together.

Lesson 2:
LAB: Cooking Pancakes - Holiday Style
Introduce students to basic pancake batter ingredients: flour, milk, eggs, and baking powder.
Discuss variations for holiday-themed pancakes (e.g., pumpkin, cinnamon, fun shapes, or festive toppings)
Guide students in making their own pancakes with toppings like whipped cream, fruit, or sprinkles.
Begin learning about measurements and fractions

Lesson 3:
Knife Skills and Simple Sauces / Rice Krispies Ceral Bars
Use the microwave to assist in making cereal bars and chef's choice of toppings or mix-ins

LAB: Pasta w/ Emerging Chef Sauce
Teach the basics of making a simple tomato sauce.
Students will chop vegetables (with guidance) and simmer them into a fresh sauce.
Chefs will practice presentation skills when plating pasta and sauce

Parental Guidance
Please note that chefs-in-training will be working with knives, hot food, and may have access to the stove or oven. An adult must be present throughout each session. A questionnaire regarding any food allergies or dietary restrictions will be sent to each parent via email. Rest assured, each recipe is adaptable with alternative ingredients to ensure everyone’s safety.

a kitchen caddy is needed for this class. This caddy has all of the materials needed for success. This caddy will be supplied for each student. Ingredients for meals/ snacks will be provided weekly
