In this class, students will learn how to print capital letters using the Handwriting Without Tears program. This is a developmentally appropriate and sequential approach to letter writing. Students will learn that all letters can be formed using a combination of four basic shapes--a big line, big curve, little line, and little curve. Each class will begin with the teacher modeling how to form the letter using paper pieces. Then students will warm up their fingers and use playdoh to form the given letters. Finally, students will practice printing on paper. I will offer encouraging feedback. Each class will focus on learning four letters each session. At the end of the class, students will know how to form all 26 letters of the alphabet. Students should have previous experience with holding a writing utensil and a preferred hand dominance established. This class is appropriate for learners just beginning to print letters or for students who need extra understanding and repetition for letter writing. I will provide the Handwriting Without Tears letter pieces that parents may choose to print and reproduce in paper or cardstock.

Teacher expertise and credentials
As an experienced kindergarten and preschool teacher, I know that developing fine motor skills is important. Students will use auditory, visual, and tactile methods for letter practice. After completing this course, students will be able to use auditory cues to form letters on paper. This class will also help strengthen small muscles in the fingers for fine motor skills. This will be done in a way that is encouraging and fun!
