Class Experience

Students in this class will learn how to write the lowercase alphabet in a modern calligraphy style. While the letters may look very simple, it takes a great deal of practice to hold the marker correctly and release and add pressure to the strokes. Students will be provided with a file of practice pages to download and print. I will use a gradual release method of students watching me model the letters, followed by tracing the examples on the page, and then going on to practice the letters with only the line guides. I will be there for encouragement and individualized help as needed. The purpose of this class is to help students feel comfortable holding the marker and creating lowercase letters so they will be ready to start learning the uppercase alphabet!

Week 1: Letters a-m
Week 2: Letters n-z

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am here to share my passion for learning and making things with Outschool students. I currently work as a 3rd grade teacher in a public school district in the St. Louis, Missouri area. I have 6 years of experience in 3rd grade and one year of experience in 4th grade. I earned my Bachelor of Science - Education and Masters Degree in Learning, Teaching, and Curriculum at the University of Missouri - Columbia. As an elementary school teacher, I have taught all of the core academic subjects. Aside from my teaching job, my husband and I own a small business making home decor items and hand lettering. I can't wait to share some of the things I've learned. I'm happy working with all types of learners and believe in the importance of a hands-on approach to learning. Building relationships and getting to know so many students is the reason I became a teacher. After teaching virtually during quarantine, I now know building a relationship with my students is still possible, even from a distance! A fun fact about me is that I have two very cute and fluffy dogs named Shep and Riley, and you might get to meet them if you come to one of my classes. Hope to see you soon!
