Class Experience

This course was previously an on-going course, but due to parent feedback, it is now organized into three one-time courses!

Small animals are cute and sound like easy pets, but they can require more than families realize. There is also a lot of false information out there about caring for them. This course is a part of a series of three courses designed for students who are interested in small pets, own small pets, or are considering getting one!

Students will learn about how to take care of hamsters, including dwarf hamsters. The information that will be covered includes appropriate cage sizes and living conditions, whether or not the pet should have a friend, safe toys and treats, what they eat, and information about their behaviors.

Hello!

I am an certified educator with a diverse background working with students of all ages and ability levels in various settings. These settings include day cares, public schools, college, specialized schools, and in homes. I enjoy teaching a variety of subjects such as the following: social courses, English, art, science, and life skills. I believe that every student is capable of learning in their own way. I am happy to adapt my courses for the needs of my students. I knew I wanted to be a teacher as a first grade student. Teaching and working with children is something that I have always been passionate about and incorporate into my life. When I was in school, English and art were always my favorite subjects. I enjoyed writing and helping my peers with their writing. Language is a part of our everyday lives, so it is a vital skill to work on throughout our lives.

Currently, I am a special education preschool teacher, and prior to that, a fourth grade teacher at a public school in the US. I am a first generation college student with both an associate's degree and a bachelor's degree. I am certified in both Florida and Illinois to teach students birth through age 22 for special education and birth through grade 6 general education. Additionally, I’m certified to be a reading teacher in Illinois.

I love doing art! I enjoy projects of all kinds and trying out new methods of painting. I paint when I am stressed, happy, or really just because! I also adore animals. I have a cat named Dexter (Dex for short). Dexter is quite smart, social, and playful. He loves to play fetch. I also have a class pet, Nugget, who is a leopard gecko. He loves to see what we are up to! My favorite volunteer position has been a NICU Cuddler! I held infants in a hospital that were born premature or with a medical condition that requires them to be there for awhile.
