Class Experience

Welcome to Halloween Horror Theatre!

In this one-time meeting, learners will watch three short horror films together. Half of the class time will be for viewing, and the other half for discussing. I will screen share the short films through Zoom, so that the group is watching and reacting at the same time. After each short film, we will discuss the story with topics such as:

-What kind of fear was this story dealing with?
-Did you find it scary? Why or why not?
-What would you do in this situation?
-The difference between independent films and studio films.

Halloween Horror Theatre is perfect for learners who are horror fans and want a little bit of extra spookiness this holiday season. Let's have some fun with ghosts, ghouls, and other nasties, just in time for Halloween!

Other Details

Parental Guidance
The three shorts do not contain any depictions of violence, foul language, or extreme/graphic content. However they feature scary creatures/ghosts, some 'jump scares', and could be frightening/unsettling. I encourage you to view the films ahead of time to decide if the short films will be appropriate for your learner. You can find all three of these shorts for free on Youtube: -'The Hidebehind', by the channel ALTER -'Midnight Snack', by the channel David Romero -'Lights Out', by the channel Ponysmasher

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello, and thanks for stopping by!

My name is Dalton and I am passionate about the arts in many forms - from writing, to visual, to martial. I offer classes such as:

-Genre fiction writing
-Book clubs
-Martial arts + self defense
-Dungeons and Dragons

I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of the Fraser Valley. My experience there instilled a deep love of stories, creativity, collaboration, learning, and teaching. In the years since, I have gained experience as a group tutor for ESL students, worked with local community centres to lead spring break camps, and I have assisted in teaching martial arts at my gym, where I have trained for nearly a decade and previously competed out of.

I believe that learning is best accomplished in a low-pressure, welcoming, and encouraging environment. That encouragement comes in the form of openness and creativity, as students gain the most confidence when they can explore new fascinations and hobbies without risk of embarrassment. That means: positive learning environments only!

In my free time I enjoy training in martial arts, reading all sorts of books, writing novels, playing videogames, and adventuring with my friends and family in Dungeons and Dragons.
