This will be a fun, hands-on, engaging intro to chemistry class for children from the ages of 7-12 years old. Children will be learning the basics of chemistry and then taking a hands-on approach and creating Halloween elephant toothpaste in their homes while learning the science behind it! The students will be able to make educated predictions (hypotheses) and observe what occurs in the experiment. Students will be able to discuss what they are seeing and feeling. The students will be...
Students will be true scientists understanding the basic elements of chemistry, gaining knowledge with chemistry vocabulary, and having a fun, hands-on, engaging experience.
I minored in chemistry and have extensive knowledge in the subject matter. I also have incorporated chemistry over the past 10 years while working with students. Other training/education I have are: Bachelors degree in Fine Arts and Photography minor in Chemistry, AMS Montessori Teaching Certificate, M. Ed in Global perspective, and ABAR Training
This experiment will need the following: -1 plastic container or 1 beaker or 1 container or 1 small hollowed-out pumpkin (for the theme) -Funnel -Food Coloring -Warm Water - 1 packet of Yeast -1 small mixing container (condiment cups work great for this, or you can use one bowl and divvy out the portions in each jar/bottle) -hydrogen peroxide (1 Cup) -spoon -baking sheet or tray or baking pan or container (something to go under the bottles to catch all the mess)
25 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
There is nothing that is dangerous in this experiment but this experiment is messy so adults may want to prepare with proper trays below the experiment so that it is contained.
