US Grade Preschool - 1
Kids will enjoy listening to the sweet Halloween story, Ghost Afraid of the Dark. While listening they can color a corresponding coloring sheet that they will receive ahead of time. Then they will help to complete a Halloween (cloze) poem. This is a nice Halloween-themed activity that is a little calm before the chaos of the parties, haunted houses, trick-or-treating, and candy. Ahhhh…. A "Ghost Afraid of the Dark" is about a ghost that’s afraid of the dark?! How can this be? Come follow Boo as he learns about bravery. The poem, "Halloween Fun”, has rhyme, and easily allows kids to personalize it to make it their own.
Learning Goals
Things can get pretty high energy on Halloween day; anticipation of dressing up, fun parties, and holiday events. This class is a nice way to bring the energy level down a bit, for a half hour, while still enjoying the fun of Halloween.
Kids will enjoy listening to and seeing the illustrations for a fun Halloween story. They will also enjoy coloring the character from the story, Boo.

I have over 20 years of experience teaching grades 3 through 8. I hold a bachelor’s degree from Northern Arizona University, where I studied Elementary Education. In addition, I have a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction. My classroom environment fosters imagination, growth, and experimentation. Students feel safe exploring the learning process, and proud of their accomplishments. My passion for teaching many subject areas, but particularly reading, writing, arts, and SEL is quite evident as I often believe in weaving the disciplines together in a cross-curricular approach. I have attended many reading and writing conferences over the years to keep up on the most current literacy practices. In my free time I enjoy reading, journaling, blogging, and writing poetry. Sharing this passion with students is a tremendous joy!
