Halloween Costume and Cosplay Brainstorm Session and Drawing Lab - (Age 11-15)
What's included
1 live meeting
50 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
First, each learner/designer will present their vision to the class by describing it. They are also encouraged to bring one or more images of their costume idea(s) or inspirational images. Directly following each presentation, we will do a quick mini-brainstorm session on the costume idea just presented. Next, each learner will draw their version of the just presented and discussed costume idea using pens or pencils (colored preferred) on the provided optional templates. Then we repeat this process for each learner that wants to present. Each presentation/brainstorm/drawing exercise will be given equal time as determined by the number of learners/presenters in the class. The instructor will also provide tips and techniques on how to draw their costume ideas as well as practical construction considerations, while the class members all benefit from each personal consultation. Some considerations may include types of materials used, color scheme, comfort, materials cost, time constraints, etc. We will share all our drawings with each other so that each learner will benefit not only from the instructor's input but also from each learner. The goal is that each learner/presenter will leave the class with a fresh perspective on their concept and a clearer vision of how to bring their concept to life. This class is for all levels of cosplay and costume enthusiasts. The only pre-requisites are an open mind and an experimental mindset.
Learning Goals
- Learn how to communicate a creative concept both verbally through practicing their presentation skills and physically (through drawing/sketching).
- Respectfully share ideas in a constructive and collaborative fashion by giving and receiving feedback from others in a nurturing, safe space
- Recreate and modify male and female croquis (templates provided) to be used as optional base drawings for costume/fashion design renderings
- Improve rendering skills of various learner presented designs including shading, proportions, and details.
- Practice critical thinking and analytical skills to get a sense of what kinds of considerations are needed when creating a costume or garment (measurements, colors, materials needed, budget, design decisions, etc.)
