Guitar for Beginners Music Introductory Class
Class experience
I welcome learners of all identities and backgrounds into my classes. This is a Beginner course on guitar. No previous experience is required, but each student must have their own guitar for class and to practice on, during the week. Students are responsible for having their guitar tuned for each class. They will need the GuitarTuna app or they can use the online version of GuitarTuna, which I will post a link for in the classroom, before the first class. I will show the...
Students will be able to play some songs on one string, from guitar tablature. Students will be able to hold the guitar properly and use good left hand positioning. They will understand how to read basic guitar tablature, and learn the string names and numbers. Students will learn some basic chords and play some songs, as well as practicing some improvising. They will be able to tune their own guitar, using GuitarTuna. Please have GuitarTuna as a free phone app or the free online version. I will post the link to the online version in the classroom. Students will practice keeping a steady beat, while strumming. They will be able to switch between some basic chords, including beginner C major, beginner G major, E minor and D6. Students will be able to play an E minor pentatonic scale and improvise a short guitar solo. Students will be prepared to move on to Beginner Guitar Level 2.
I am an Outschool teacher and I have been teaching on outschool since May 2020. I have 20+ years experience, as a music teacher and performer. I have taught piano, electric keyboard, guitar, and general music classes, in both the classroom and private settings. I taught private piano and guitar lessons at a guitar shop, for 5 years, in addition to my own private students in my studio. I have a bachelor's degree in music education, from Towson University, plus graduate studies in music education.
