I will communicate to the students, how they are doing, as we go along. Informal assessment.Class Experience
I welcome learners of all identities and backgrounds into my classes. This is a Beginner course on guitar. No previous experience is required, but each student must have their own guitar for class and to practice on, during the week. Students are responsible for having their guitar tuned for each class. They will need the GuitarTuna app or they can use the online version of GuitarTuna, which I will post a link for in the classroom, before the first class. I will show the students how to use the GuitarTuna app at the first class. If possible, your student should have access to GuitarTuna (on a phone or another device that is not logged into Zoom) with them, at the first class. We will cover tuning, reading chord diagrams, guitar tablature, and playing some basic guitar chords. Students will learn how to play some songs, with the chords that they learn. They will also learn some basic improvising to get a feel for playing lead guitar. I will have each student get some experience playing both rhythm guitar, as well as lead guitar. The students will learn how to play both with and without a guitar pick. We will go over some basic strumming patterns. My teaching style is fun and creative. Each student is unique and important to me. I see music as a way to gain competence, and build self esteem and self motivation. Course Breakdown - Week 1 - Tuning your guitar, using the GuitarTuna app. Learn the string names and numbers. How to read basic Guitar Tablature and play a couple of fun songs.
