Homework
Each week we will come to our picnic with a "fun-fact" about the location we are "picnicking" in. The kids love this portion of the picnic and they get tp share what they have learned. They all vote on the most unique fun fact and the winner gets an award that week posted to the class and the choice of our location for the following week. This usually only takes the picnickers a few minutes to accomplish before the picnic starts.

Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
If you love feeding your guinea pigs and hamsters fun treats, while learning new things about different locations in the world, then you will love this class! We will meet each week for a "Pet Picnic" and make some super tasty miniature foods for our precious pets!

Picnic Structure:
These ongoing picnics will be fun opportunities to socialize together where we will get the chance to play with our food!
Our time together will be highly interactive where the students are able to ask questions, share stories or ideas, talk about fun places they have visited and make friends. We play fun games based on the area we are learning about, create the dish for the week, and everyone comes to the picnic with a "Unique Fact" about the area we are "visiting" that week. The kids all get to secretly vote on who they thought had the most unique fact for the day and the winner gets an award posted in the classroom. After the 4th week, the winner gets to also choose our next location to visit from two location choices that I offer.

Picnics are a time for us to gather with our furry friends and create a miniature meal from different places in the world. From an all American dish, (Hamburgers!) to creations from Asia, India and even Mexico! The dishes we create are usually traditional to the location we are visiting. I will show the actual dish and most weeks, give the actual recipe for it. We then customize the meal to suit the needs of our sweet little pets. This is a very creative way to teach the picnickers about different tastes and cultures of the world as well as creative thinking about how to adjust the foods so that our pets can eat them safely.

My classrooms are welcoming and warm to all participants, each picnicker gets to be as expressive as they want to be or as quiet and reserved as they choose, all are welcomed and encouraged to share if they feel comfortable to do so.

Week 1:
Friday September 29th: Picnic being held in Japan! We will be making some Japanese "Sushi" bowls.
(Supplies list will be provided when you register for class)

Week 2:
Friday October 6th: Picnic being held in Africa! We will be making a traditional African dish called "Bunny Chow"
(Supplies list will be posted in the classroom each week for the next weeks picnic)

Week 3:
Friday October 13th: Special Picnic!!
This one is being held in "Halloween Town"!
This week may go a little longer than normal because we will be making treats for our piggies and hamsters as well as for ourselves. This is usually a very popular week with the kids, our treats this week are fun and delicious for all!! We will be making a fun Halloween inspired dish for our pets and some "spooky face yummies" for us.

Week 4:
Friday October 20th: Picnic being held in Spain! We will be making a traditional Spanish dish called "Fideuà"
(Supplies list will be posted in the classroom each week for the next weeks picnic)

Week 5
Friday October 27th: Picnic will be held in the location of choice by the picnicker who had the most unique vote from week 4.
The picnickers are also allowed to and encourage to wear their Halloween costumes to the picnic this week to share with their friends. (I might even be dressed up too! )

Week 6
Friday November 3rd: Picnic will be held in the location of choice by the picnicker who had the most unique fact from week 5.
Please remember to check the classroom for the posted supplies list on Saturday morning.

**We will be working with guinea pig and hamster safe veggies and fruits, we will be using knives and veggie peelers. If your student is not allowed to work with these kitchen utensils, please be available to prepare the veggies for him/her.

**When you register for a weekly picnic, you will have access to the complete supplies list. Since each picnic is unique, I will post the supplies list every Saturday for that weeks' supply needs to make sure your picnic is a success! Picnics will be held on a Thursday or Friday (depending on which schedule you choose when you enroll), giving you time to gather up your ingredients.

**Please keep in mind that the unique fact portion of the picnic is meant for fun and entertainment as well as a way to get each picnicker involved in the location we are visiting. Please be available for your student if they get upset about not "winning" the most unique fact vote for the week. You can also have a conversation with your kiddo about friendly, fun and fair competition and how to be gracious with being voted for or not voted for.
