Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 6
I this class, we will be reading fiction and nonfiction books at Level P. While practicing our reading, we will be improving fluency and other reading skills. We will figure out tricky words by sounding them out, rereading, and talking about what would make sense. We will also learn new vocabulary words. We will learn grammar such as parts of a sentence. These are nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs.

In this class, we will also be working on comprehension. We will discuss and write about the elements of fiction stories such as the characters, setting, problem,
and solution.

We also discuss and write about what we learn in nonfiction books. We compare and contrast and talk about the main ideas and supporting details in nonfiction books also.

A bonus to this class is that while we are reading nonfiction books, we will also be learning science and social studies!

Here is a list of the titles of the books we will be reading this month along with the order and what we will be doing:

Week 1, Day 1- Dinosaur- We will compare and contrast using a Venn Diagram

Week 1, Day 2- Seals, Sea Lions, and Walruses- We will discuss and write the main idea and supporting details

Week 2, Day 1- Amazing Antarctica- We will discuss what we learned and then fill missing words in sentences.

Week 2, Day 2- Guardian Dogs- We will read the book together and discuss vocabulary words from the book.

Week 3, Day 1- Gotta Get Away From Gravity- We will compare and contrast two different planets on a Venn diagram.

Week 3, Day 2- Picture Day- We will read the book and then retell the story in order of how it happened.

Week 4, Day 1- The Pirate Substitute- We will make a character web on the pirate and Jack.

Week 4, Day 2- Rent a Llama - We will read the book and then discuss a scene from the book. After that, we will talk about the scene from another character's point of view.
