Beginner Level
The purpose of this course is to teach & encourage the "growth mindset". Changing your mindset to believe in yourself, sets you up for a life full of happiness. Life can be a journey where you make a choice to build upon your intelligence and abilities. When something is hard, how do we react to it? That is what makes the difference! The purpose of this class will be to provide the children as each other's "journal buddies". I will be a part of the group to guide & structure the class,...
Students will be introduced to the growth mindset, identify it in themselves, practice it and connect it to their own lives and experiences.
I have 6 years of experience as a classroom special education teacher, 20 years of experience as a tutor, and 5 years of experience as a homeschool mom. In all 3 settings, I realized the best thing for a student was to develop a mindset where they believe in themself and can feel successful. I discovered this journal & "growth mindset" as a homeschooler and have used it with my own children but the experience of having friends as their "journal buddy" has brought it to another level.
Developing a growth mindset and the community of this class can be especially beneficial for students with special needs. We do work primarily based on discussion and applying what we are talking about to real life.
Students will need their own hardcopy of the "Big Life Journal, 2nd edition" (https://biglifejournal.com/collections/all/products/big-life-journal-kids-second-edition). Students should come to class with their journal and something to write & draw with.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
This class is developed around the "Big Life Journal, 2nd edition" and the chapters/recommendations included.
