OVERVIEW: The goal of this 3 session course is to provide your student with the tools, language, and understanding needed to shift from a Fixed Mindset to a Growth Mindset. We will learn about the science of mistakes, the language and tools of a Growth Mindset, set personal goals, and apply learning between sessions. Each session will focus on a new area of discovering and developing a growth mindset. Between sessions, students will be provided with optional reflection questions and tasks to apply their learning to their day-to-day life as they practice and work to shift their mindset. SCHEDULE OF TOPICS: WEEK/DAY ONE: “The Science of Making Mistakes” - Define a Growth Mindset and Fixed Mindset - Develop a basic understanding of our brain when we learn and make mistakes - Reflect on how it feels to be faced with a challenge or to have an idea "fail" - Meet and begin to follow along in a character's (Mojo) journey as he learns about and develops a Growth Mindset - Complete a hands-on activity that will help them to visualize and understand their brains as they make mistakes WEEK/DAY TWO: “The Power of Yet” - Discuss shifts to a "Growth Mindset", specifically within the language we use (to ourselves and to others) - Discover and apply self talk language needed to shift from a Fixed Mindset to a Growth Mindset - Sort phrases between a Fixed and Growth Mindset - Create mini-posters to represent the language and symbols that represent a Fixed vs. a Growth Mindset - Analyze scenarios and decide if the character demonstrated a Fixed or Growth Mindset and if Fixed, how they could shift their reaction to demonstrate a Growth Mindset WEEK/DAY THREE: “Putting It All Together!” - Learn about and discuss famous figures in history who have faced set backs and overcame obstacles - Watch final chapters in our character's (Mojo) journey to developing a Growth Mindset - Put our own mindset to the test with a series of Brainteasers and Challenges that are sure to put their Growth Mindset into action - Set personal goals moving forward and have an opportunity to complete a reflection about our learning together over the three sessions SCHEDULING NOTE: Due to many requests, some classes are scheduled as 3 weeks/Once Weekly and others are 1 Week/3x per Week. Please select the style class that works best for you and your learners when enrolling! All material stays the same and provides 3 total sessions of learning. INSTRUCTION: I will provide instruction through discussion, as well as visual aids such as videos and materials from Class Dojo's Big Ideas Program. My teaching style is centered around student-teacher and student-student relationships. Each class will largely focus on discussion, sharing ideas and making personal connections to the conversations. In addition to discussions and media, we will complete some hands-on activities (paper and pencil/drawing tool needed) and complete collaborative challenges.
