Write or find a ghost story to share! Please submit it!Class Experience
US Grade 3 - 5
Does your child enjoy scary stories? They'd love this one time creepy class! Let's meet around the virtual campfire and exchange spooky stories! Students will read teacher-approved ghost stories to the group. The purpose of this is to build reading fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary. Student discussions will follow each story. This class is ideal for grades 3-5. The class will be kept small to ensure each student gets a chance to share their story! Stories can be written by the student, chosen from a text, or from online. Stories must be submitted prior to class to ensure they are age appropriate. Stories should be shorter in length so they don't exceed 5 or 6 minutes to read aloud. Sessions will be consistent, each student shares their story and the group discusses after each story. Unfamiliar words will be discussed to improve vocabulary and assistance will be provided to decode words if needed. This is a one time class but I will offer it sporadically. Stories will be different each time!

Background:
I received my bachelor’s degree in special education and my master’s degree in reading. I am certified in early childhood education, mild-moderate disabilities, severe/profound disabilities, and I am a certified Reading Specialist. I taught in public schools for 12 years. I taught prek, kindergarten, 1st-3rd students with learning disabilities, and middle school students with learning disabilities.
I left the classroom to start my own reading tutoring business. I now solely tutor students in reading and teach on Outschool.
Philosophy:
I follow Science of Reading practices. I use a phonological awareness and phonics scope and sequence when instructing students. Lessons are customized to their reading needs.
I believe in play based, hands-on, multi-sensory learning. My primary goal is for students to have fun so they never feel like learning to read is a chore. I believe the ability to read is the most important thing. It opens doors, takes us on adventures, and provides us unlimited knowledge.
What I Teach:
I offer phonics classes for elementary students, book clubs for secondary students, and individual reading tutoring.
