This class is designed for students who already play the flute. Students should be able to make a consistent sound on the flute and be able to read music. In this class, I will cover the fundamentals of playing the flute including working on tone, technique, articulation, breathing, basic theory, and ear training. After evaluating the students' prior experience on flute, through discussion and playing, the class will be structured to meet the needs of the learners present. I use a variety of techniques in my teaching such as demonstrating, call and response style playing, playing along with the teacher, discussion, games, and asking questions. Students will need a properly working flute and a willingness to try new things. I believe that learning a musical instrument should be a fun and rewarding experience. I strive to keep my classes challenging, but also joyful and encouraging! For students who are interested there is the opportunity to continue with private lessons.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I’m Mrs. Germann and my love for flute playing and teaching runs deep! With over 25 years of experience, I am devoted to teaching flute to students of all ages and all ability levels. My degrees in music (BA in music education and MM in performance) have provided me with many teaching opportunities. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of teaching elementary band in the California public schools, teaching flute and music appreciation at community colleges in Florida, directing a middle school honors flute ensemble, and, of course, teaching private flute lessons!
Currently, I teach in Ohio at Stivers School for the Arts in Dayton, at my studio “GIFT” in Kettering, and with the New Horizons Program through the University of Dayton. Whether it’s adult beginners in the New Horizons Program, the very young child in a KinderFlute class, or middle/high school students……there is nothing more rewarding than being able to share the joy of learning a musical instrument with someone new. I encourage you to find your voice, tell your story, share your gift!
