Class Experience

This ongoing group course is perfect for preteens who need extra skills, strategies, and confidence as they navigate unavoidable conflict in their lives. This session can be as personalized, or general as needed. Each student will complete a conflict resolution style assessment. Using this information, we will explore skills and techniques to peacefully confront conflict in the future. During our coaching groups, the student will learn:
Navigating Peer Relationships
Managing group dynamics
Handling more complex emotions
Effective Communication
Active Listening skills
I-Statements
Respectful Disagreements
Learn about the Stages of Conflict
Learn about the 5 Responses to Conflict
Setting Boundaries
Conflict Resolution Theories, Strategies and Techniques
Negotiation , Arbitration and Mediation
Conflict Resolution Role Plays

Students will gain confidence and self efficacy in their ability to use their newly learned skills. Children will be able to use these skills to better resolve disagreements between friends, constant arguing with parents, sibling bickering/rivalry/jealousy, boyfriend/girlfriend disputes, teacher/coach aversion and resentment, etc. It is recommended that students enroll in 2-4 sessions to take a deeper dive into developing these skill sets.

Classes will be a mixture of slides, interactive role plays, games, and discussion.

Learning Goals

Pre-teens will learn to express their thoughts and emotions clearly using "I" statements, practice active listening, and respect others’ perspectives during disagreements
Pre-teens will understand how to identify the root cause of a conflict, brainstorm fair solutions collaboratively, and use compromise to resolve issues constructively.
