Week 1Lesson 1Creation of the national parkThe history, people, geography, and geology of The Great Smoky Mountains National Park.Lesson 2Plants & AnimalsThe kids will be introduced to some of the plants & animals in the park, and how to use a field guide.Lesson 3Day HikesThe kids will learn how to choose hiking trails in The Great Smoky Mountains National Park ,and pack a day pack for hiking. The kids will learn about elevation of a trail and how to read the trail information in a hiking guide as well as how to read a topography map.Lesson 4Virtual Hiking DayWe are going on a virtual hike!The kids will need a water bottle, a snack, and their packed backpack from meeting 3.Lesson 5Activities in the GSMNPThe kids will learn about different activities they can do when they visit the national park.
