Class Experience

US Grade 8 - 11
This 8 week course will cover 10 of the greatest military leaders in history. We will start in week 1 discussing Sun Tzu and The Art of War to give us a foundational knowledge of military strategy and a marker for evaluating each leader. After that, each week we will explore a different leader. We will discuss the biography of the leader, the context of the battles, as well as the strategies, tactics, and leadership abilities that makes this leader significant in world history with an in depth look at key battles this leader fought. We will look at leaders from a variety of cultures and time periods. We will move chronologically and discuss advances in technology and scale of warfare.

This class is taught in an inquiry based, Socratic method, highly interactive format. I encourage students to actively engage in class discussion and evaluation, as we work together to uncover the leadership and military skills of each leader under consideration. No prior knowledge is required, and I will give the students a thorough background in each time period and conflict under consideration.
