Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 8
Gravity Falls, a mysterious town full of unexplainable phenomenon and a dark secret for the Pines twins to uncover. This class is a deep, literary analysis of the animated tv series "Gravity Falls" where we will look at how this show created an intricate mystery that pervaded almost every episode. We will look at how the show's mysteries are written, and learn how to replicate that style in our own writing. We will discuss the fluid use of foreboding, learn how to be subtle in your clue-giving, and how to write the "aha" moment when the mystery becomes clear. We will look at how the story as a whole is driven by the viewer's need for answers, and how the characters have been molded by the ongoing mystery. After we look at this show's mystery, we will learn a few tips for how to write a gripping mystery that isn't too obvious but can also be understood by the reader once revealed.

Prior knowledge of the show is preferred, but not required. Taking notes is encouraged.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello, Parents and Learners! My name is Camille, and I am so excited to share my enthusiasm for reading and writing with you. My university degree is in Secondary Education. I taught Middle School Language Arts for almost four years before choosing to stay home with my daughter and sheepadoodle puppy. I love helping students find ways to unlock their writing and reading skills that they can be proud of.

I have experience teaching academic writing and basic reading comprehension techniques for young teens. I found that the best times I had teaching was when I was collaborating with students on their creative writing pieces.

I believe that everyone has a story to tell, and I hope I can help my learners find the methods that work for them to tell their stories one day.
