In this course students will practice building and using social skills techniques to connect with others while learning about gratitude and having a positive mindset. This class is a great place to start when introducing those skills and looking for a safe and welcoming place for the students to practice them. During this course students will participate in a read aloud featuring the book “I Like Myself” by Karen Beaumont. This story displays personal qualities one can like or be grateful they have. After reading the story. Students will brainstorm ways in which they are proud of themselves. Next with teacher guidance students will create a homemade mirror decorated with their positive words and thoughts about themselves so they can always remind themselves that they too are enough. Last, the students will decorate the trim of their homemade mirrors with things they are grateful for that other people in their lives do as well. The group will work together to brainstorm examples.
