Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 2
By listening to the book The Bat Can Bat by Gene Barretta, learners will meet all of the animals that are allowed to play sports. This book is filled with homonyms and fun animals, like the BAT who likes to BAT or the rabbit who likes to TRAIN for races by racing a TRAIN! After the story, we will play an interactive homonym game, where the students get to control the screen using their computer mouse or touchpad. Then we will make a Homonym Bat craft. The students will draw and match pairs of homonyms from the story to create the cute craft.

This class is great for children who are just learning about homonyms, or to provide extra practice for learners who already know about homonyms. So come learn with us!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! I'm Teacher Shannon! I have taught 2nd grade for 24 years. I've taught both Gifted and Regular Education. I was a substitute teacher for 2 years working with Early Childhood students as well as older elementary students. My passion is reading! I love Children's Literature and I have even co-taught college level students on "What's New In Children's LIterature?" for the last 10 years. What drives me as a teacher is to have a fun, safe, interactive classroom while embracing lots of quality literature. I want kids to love reading as much as I do and to have fun learning! And maybe make a craft or two along the way!
