In this course, the students will be introduced to homographs that have the same spelling and pronunciation but different meanings. They will be introduced to each homograph in relation to its word class (noun, verb, etc.) and definition through slides and teacher interaction. Students will be shown context sentences and students will create their own sentences with the vocabulary. Students will create sentences using guided practice and independent practice. Guided practice will be individual/group activity. Students will proofread sentence groupings and passages for proper usage. Students will create a short paragraph (sentence group for younger students) using homographs. Each exercise will promote mastery of usage.
Learning Goals
Students will gain mastery of homographs through guided, group, and independent practice.

Teacher expertise and credentials
My name is Carol. I am excited to be your online teacher. I retired after two decades in the classroom. I taught English, Visual Arts, Theatre Arts, Speech Communications, and Social Studies. I have taught students who range in ages from PreK-3 through High School Dual Credit. I directed two high school theatre programs for twelve years in addition to my classroom responsibilities. Many times I taught several subjects during the school day.
I believe that all students can achieve mastery. I am a strong believer in cross-curricular learning. Learning does not have to be dull to be fun, and a way to excellence. I believe this from evidence-based research and my own practice. I will implement various methods to engage all students. Excellence is not just a word, but a standard. But it is each student's excellence that is the target of my learning strategies.
