This 10-week long 4th grade English Language Arts course is structured to enhance your child's reading, writing, spelling, grammar, and vocabulary skills. I'm a licensed teacher for grades K-12 in reading. I have a Bachelor's Degree in English and a Master's in Teaching. I have 10 years of experience teaching English, including 3 years of teaching 6th grade English Language Arts.
Homework Offered
Reading Assignment: Independent reading assignment that students must read outside of class. Students may listen to the audiobook if they prefer. Vocabulary and Spelling Practice: Weekly exercises on the 10 new words, including spelling practice and sentence creation. Weekly quiz will be given via Google Forms that students will complete outside of class. Writing Assignment: Progressive work on a five-paragraph essay, with different components due each week. Feedback will be given each week using a rubric to help students clearly understand their work. At the end of the 10 weeks, the teacher will use a rubric to assess the final draft of the essay. Grammar Exercises: Weekly activities to reinforce the grammar concepts taught. Weekly quiz will be given via Google Forms that students will complete outside of class. Time Commitment: Homework is expected to take around 2-3 hours per week, depending on the student's pace. Assessments Offered
Weekly Google Forms Quiz: Every week, students will be expected to complete a quiz via Google forms about spelling, vocabulary, and grammar concepts. Each quiz will be 20 multiple choice questions. Students will see the results immediately. Students can take every quiz as many times as they like. 5-Paragraph Essay Weekly Feedback: As we work through the essays, students will get weekly feedback based on a rubric. Students are encouraged to ask questions and get extra support as needed. 5-Paragraph Essay Final Draft Feedback: At the end of the 10-weeks, the final draft of the essay will be assessed by the teacher using a rubric. Bridge to Terabihia Multiple Choice Test: During the last week of this class, students will be given a 50 question multiple choice test to assess how well they read and understood the novel. The test will be given using Google Forms. Students will see the results immediately. Students can take every quiz as many times as they like. GimKit and Kahoot may be used for review based on student interest.Grades Offered

The novel Bridge to Terabithia involves the death of a main character. The death is not described in detail, however, cremation is mentioned. This book deals with grief. Some readers may find this sad and/or disturbing. The novel also addresses bullying, sibling rivalry, and conflicts with parents, such as an overworked mother, financial issues, and the main character wishing to be closer with his father. It includes some strong language, such as "Bitch," "damn," and "hell," "Lord." A child says, "God'll d--n you all to hell." We will not focus on these words and the teacher will discourage students from using this language. If reading aloud, students will be told to skip over these words and phrases.
