Go Greek or Go Home: An Intro to Greek Mythology

Greek Mythology has many incredible stories, myths, and legends of gods, goddesses, heroes, creatures, and mortals who were a part of two worlds and how these worlds would collide. In this one time introductory class, students will explore these amazing stories through a slide show presentation, videos, and storytelling and discussion. We will learn about the Greek gods Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades who were brothers and sometimes rivals. Students will learn about the goddesses Athena, Artemis, and Aphrodite. They will also learn about the heroes and mortals Perseus, Hercules, and Helen. We will be discussing and exploring the Trojan War and the stories and myths associated with these gods, goddesses, heroes and mortals. The subjects covered will be Social Studies, Science, and Mythology. We will watch a clip from the movie, "Clash of the Titans" with Zeus the King of the Gods, and also refer to informative flash cards and read from the National Geographic book, "Treasury of Greek Mythology" by Donna Jo Napoli.
