Other Details
Learning Needs
This class has step-by-step directions on the recipe cards and in the videos. The instructor is a former teacher and believes all students benefit from explicit steps in any task, including cooking.
Parental Guidance
This is a baking class, so your child may need help with measuring and finding all ingredients. As they will also be using an oven and possibly a mixer, adult supervision and support is recommended.
This class does use ingredients that students may have allergies to, including dairy and eggs. As it is a gluten-free baking class there is no wheat.
Pre-Requisites
Students should be familiar with ingredients, measuring cups and spoons, and following a recipe. If they are not, they will need adult help for more of the cooking.
Supply List
For the maple scones: gluten-free flour, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, butter, heavy cream, maple syrup, sour cream, egg, vanilla, powdered sugar. For the pumpkin brownies: gluten-free flour, baking soda, salt, pumpkin pie spice, chocolate chips, butter, vanilla, canned pumpkin, 2 eggs, granulated sugar, and brown sugar. An oven or toaster oven to bake each recipe. A cheese grater, spoon, and at least 2 mixing bowls are needed. A mixer is helpful but not required.
Language of Instruction
English
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Sources
Both recipes have been inspired by recipes with gluten-based flour.
Teacher expertise and credentials
As a person with celiac, a lot of the information I will share is what I've learned works well when using gluten-free flour. I know how isolating it can be to attend holiday events, or any event, and not have food you can eat. This class will help your child feel confident in making delicious fall recipes for themselves, family members who are gluten-free, or even better a friend who has to avoid gluten.
