Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 5
It's girl talk time. In this ongoing "Girls Are Fantastic, Phenomenal and Everything in Between - A Girls' Club," learners will read and discuss everything a girl could do and possibly become. We'll read "A Collection of Short Stories for Girls" about strength, love, self-awareness; some of the stories based on real-life and others from the imagination of the author, as well as other books with the same uplifting theme.

The purpose of the "Girls' Club" is for girls to read and discuss related theme books that share stories of characters in each book, discuss the events, characters, plot, outcome, how the character/s solved their dilema and determine which character trait the character exhibits. I will facilitate, lead and monitor learner discussions, help learners acquire knowledge of the various positive character traits we'll be reading about in each story and book. Learners will meet new learners from all over, maybe even from other countries, learn and/or sharpen their conversational skills, interact with girls their own age and hopefully gain new knowledge about positive character traits demonstrated in the stories. I will also monitor the discussions, answer questions the learners may have about each story, focus learners on positive character traits such as courage, self-confidence, empathy, perseverance, respect, overcoming adversity, honesty, trustworthiness, responsibility, integrity, bravery, kindness and ensure each learner's active and courteous participation in the discussions. This Club is not a group therapy session so I will not be giving any therapeutic advice. I will be focused on the stories we read, focus each learner's attention on understanding the stories and books we read, discussing with learners how the character/s in the story could change, do something different for a different outcome, creatively change the ending of the story, and encourage learners to gain an understanding of positive character traits, what they are and how the characters in each story uses their character trait in a positive way for the character's self-development and relationships within the story. This "Girls' Club" is a great place for learners to meet new friends, learn how to work in a group setting, and respectfully engage in discussions and conversations freely, have fun, laugh, connect to new friends from all over. Even shy learners will benefit from being with other learners their age, reading the carefully chosen stories and books, listening and watching as discussions take place until they are ready to actively participate and feel comfortable joining in.

Learners will discuss different character traits such as courage, friendship, confidence, overcoming fears, learning new skills, understanding that failure is just a learning experience, inner strength, coping better when faced with difficult situations, optimism, leadership, ambition, honesty, humility, integrity, compassion believing in their dreams, responsibility, and respect. Through each stories, learners will read about girls or groups of girls who exhibit these positive character traits.

What better place for learners to be week after week than this "Girls Are Fantastic, Phenomenal and Everything in Between - A Girls' Club" discussing new books, learning about positive character traits and meeting new friends.

Parental Guidance
Parents, my highest priority is for the safety of each learner, building a place where each girl feels comfortable, safe and respected. My responsibility and goal for this Club is to focus learners on positive character traits such as courage, empathy, persistence, respect, overcoming adversity, honesty, trustworthiness, responsibility, integrity, and ensure each learner's active and courteous participation. I am not acting as a therapist or giving any therapeutic advice. This Club is not a group therapy session but is focused on helping and encouraging learners to read on an ongoing basis [in this case, weekly], gain an understanding of what positive character traits are how characters in each story used those traits. The stories we read are positive character trait building stories for young girls. Please feel free to check out each story and book on the reading list to ensure its appropriateness for your learner and that you are comfortable with the content. Enrolling your learner gives your consent to the content of each story and permission for your learner to participate. *** SPECIAL NOTE TO PARENT: A different story or book may be substituted from time-to-time..

Teacher expertise and credentials
Master's Degree in Education from Indiana University
I've worked with learners from ages 4 to seniors individually, in small and large groups, in classrooms and in study groups for 40+ years. I have a BA in Psychology, a MA in Education, Special Education and School Administration, including post-graduate work.

I love talking and interacting with people, young learners in particular. As a Principal, I interacted with literally thousands of students. I have read to students at the elementary, middle school, and yes, even to high school students, and they loved it. I will love leading discussions in "Girls Are Fantastic, Phenomenal and Everything in Between - A Girls' Club." Can't wait to meet your learner.
