-A strong introduction to iMovie editing software for students who are interested in editing but have never used iMovie before. -iMovie (for Mac) is a full service editing software that comes standard on Mac desktop computers, iPhones, and iPads. It’s a free video editing software many people don’t know they already own. -Video editing is a great skill to have. You can create almost any kind of movie using iMovie. Music videos, educational films, school reports, and short documentaries are just a few possibilities. -This course introduces learners to the structural interface of iMovie through a full workshop on the software, its components, and other useful terminology like “export settings.” Then we go a little further on our second day and complete a short editing project. Class 1: Understanding the iMovie software interface Class 2: Completing a short mood film in iMovie **Students will download project assets before each class meeting. **iMovie is for IOS devices only. There is no PC/Windows version of iMovie. No cameras needed. Each session we will work through a "project packet" which will include all of the video clips and other resources students will need to complete the project. All that's needed here is an updated version of iMovie on your device of choice. I will be demonstrating in iMovie installed on a desktop. I will also post special tutorials for the iPad version when needed.
Learning Goals
Our goals for this course are to familiarize beginning editors with the technical components of the iMovie software so they can move on to larger, more complex editing projects with confidence.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
External resources in this course are in the form of a "project packet." These packets include still images, videos, and audio files needed for the editing project of the day. These packets are delivered via a link to my google drive where they can be safely scanned and downloaded for the day's instruction. Parents can review contents of the packet before download if they so choose.

Updated version of iMovie installed on your Mac desktop or mobile device You will also need sufficient space on your computer or mobile device to hold the video files we'll use. iMovie also requires a few gigs of free space to function well on any device.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
My courses are all about the media we love and the world we live in. Movies, TV, Video games, and our larger social world are my favorite things to wonder about. My courses explore Ethics, Social Science, Philosophy, and the way stories are structured. I also teach production courses to graduate and undergraduate students. And maybe now, you.
My degrees are in Sociology(MA) and Cinema(MFA). I've been teaching at one of the largest universities in the world for almost fifteen years. I also have a small production company where I produce educational videos to be used in college and high school classrooms to help explain concepts in a slightly less boring way.
Teaching is one of the ways we change ourselves, others, and the entire world. I'm honored to be a teacher. I think it's a noble and needed profession. Without people willing to pass on knowledge society would have to re-learn everything every generation. That doesn't seem very efficient. So teaching is an incredibly meaningful thing we can do to contribute to the betterment of our species.
Something fun and personal? I love traveling to and exploring national parks. I've seen the giant Sequoias... and they are GIANT!
