Hi new friends! Reading is FUNdamental. It is so important for early readers to have fun while building confidence in their beginner reading skills. Sight words are those building blocks that a child needs in order to become a fluent reader. They are words that a child learns to recognize at a glance. In this on-going course we will learn 10 new sight words each week. I will provide a list that parents are able to print out to practice at home with their children. In class, I will use flashcards to introduce the words. We will practice identifying and reading the words together. My teaching style is learner-focused. I want each child to feel comfortable, seen and heard. We will practice taking turns speaking and listening. Your learner will enjoy games and conversation with the teacher and their classmates. Reading should be FUN! It is my goal for all learners to develop self-confidence and a love of reading! ***PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR LEARNER HAS PLENTY OF SPACE TO STAND UP AND MOVE AROUND SAFELY DURING BRAIN BREAKS*** Week 1: the of and a to in is you that it Week 2: he was for on are as with his they I Week 3: at be this have from or one had by words Week 4: but not what all were we when your can said Week 5: there use an each which she do how their if Week 6: will up other about out many then them these so Week 7: some her would make like him into time has look Week 8: two more write go see number no way could people Week 9: my than first water been call who am its now Week 10: find long down day did get come made may part

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi there!
My name is Jess Glynn and I am a certified English teacher. I earned my B.A. from Bridgewater State University in 2012. I went on to teach in a severe special education classroom before I became a middle school ELA teacher. After that I stayed home to raise my children (now 6 and 9) and was so blessed to stumble upon this wonderful world of online teaching. I have been teaching ESL online for the past 4 years to learners of all levels (ages 3-18). I am so excited to bring both my personal and professional experience to Outschool.
I am passionate about reading and think it is very important learners develop a love of reading from an early age. Children are learning and acquiring reading skills long before they are able to read themselves. In my class listings you will find a variety for the younger group ranging from morning circle time classes where we will build kindergarten readiness and social skills, phonics classes where we will focus on identifying letters and their sounds, sight words classes where learners will become familiar with these important building blocks that will help them to become fluent readers.
For the older learners you will find options such as grammar classes, creative writing classes, and book clubs. My lessons are fun and engaging. I think the secret to being a successful teacher is to take the "work" out of learning. I think children learn best when they are having fun and my classes are filled with engaging, interactive activities to keep them moving and thinking.
Besides teaching I love to be outside. My hobbies include running, hiking, reading, knitting and going to the beach. I love all things Disney and frequently offer extra classes where all of my Disney lovers can unite.
I am so excited to be here to teach and look forward to meeting your learner in my virtual classroom!
