Homework
There will be no formal homework. Ms. Katelynn may suggest activities that are optional to do outside of the classroom.
Assessment
Learners will be assessed informally everyday through observations, running records, and any activities they complete in the classroom.

Class Experience

US Grade 1
Do you have a learner getting ready to enter first grade in the fall? Do you want them to feel prepared and ready to learn? Then you have found the right class! In this class we will focus on reading, writing, and math skills to help your learner feel prepared for first grade. We will meet three times a week. The first day we meet we will work on reading skills. The second day on writing skills. The third day on math skills. We will work on these skills using a multisensory approach. We will play games, use songs and hand motions, modeling,  as well as digital manipulatives to help us understand math concepts. It is recommended that your learner have a dry erase board and marker (The dollar store ones work great!). There may also be some handouts to print before class. (Days of the week subject to change)

Week 1: 
Monday: Phonemic awareness Warm up (Rhyme Recognition, Blending Syllables, isolating final sound), Digraph sh, build cvc words with digraph sh (wish, ship), sight words (of, to, want, my, open, in, is, you, that, it), read Josh’s Shed, comprehension work, dictation.
Tuesday: Writing: drawing pictures using basic shapes and lines
Wednesday: counting to 100, 2D Shapes

Week 2:
Monday: Phonemic awareness Warm up (Rhyme Recognition, Blending Syllables, isolating final sound), Digraph ch, build cvc words with digraph ch (chin, much), sight words (what, was, for, try, are, as, play, his, they, I), read Chip Plays Chess, comprehension work, dictation.
Tuesday: Writing: labeling pictures using best guess spelling
Wednesday: counting to 100, 3D shapes 

Week 3:
Monday: Phonemic awareness Warm up (Segmenting syllables and adding syllables), Digraph th, build cvc words with digraph th (thin, moth), sight words (off, be, this, have, from, or, one, had, by, saw), read Beth and the Moth, comprehension work, dictation.
Tuesday: Writing: Writing a complete sentence
Wednesday: counting to 100, skip counting by 2s, 5s, 10s, patterns

Week 4:
Monday: Phonemic awareness Warm up Segmenting syllables and adding syllables), Digraph wh, build cvc words with digraph wh (whip, whim), sight words (after, what, all, never, we, when, your, can, said, its), read Bath Time, comprehension work, dictation.
Tuesday: Writing: Writing sentences and using capital letters appropriately 
Wednesday: skip counting by 2s, 5s, 10s, numbers to 50

Week 5:
Monday: Phonemic awareness Warm up (Deleting Syllables and Substituting Syllables), Digraph ck, build cvc words with digraph ck (sock, duck), sight words (use, may, each, way, she, do, how, their, if, will), read Up to the Top, comprehension work, dictation.
Tuesday: Writing: Making sentences stronger by adding where
Wednesday:  skip counting by 2s, 5s, 10s, properties of addition

Week 6:
Monday: Phonemic awareness Warm up (Deleting Syllables and Substituting Syllables), Beginning L blends, build ccvc words with l blends (flip, flag), sight words (up, other, about, out, many, then, them, jump, so, some), Glen Slips, comprehension work, dictation.
Tuesday: Writing: Writing more than one sentence
Wednesday: skip counting by 2s, 5s, 10s, fact family 

Week 7:
Monday: Phonemic awareness Warm up (Adding initial Phonemes, Deleting initial Phonemes), Beginning S blend, build ccvc words with s blends (stick, skip), sight words (her, would, make, like, him, into, has, look, more, go), read Can Max, comprehension work, dictation.
Tuesday: Writing: Writing more than one sentence to answer a question
Wednesday: skip counting by 2s, 5s, 10s, find the missing addend in addition
 
Week 8:
Monday: Phonemic awareness Warm up (Adding initial Phonemes, Deleting initial Phonemes), Beginning R blend, build ccvc words with r blends (trap, frog), sight words (see, no, way, could, people, my, than, been, who, am), read Fred’s Flat, comprehension work, dictation.
Tuesday: Writing: Respond to questions to strengthen writing
Wednesday: skip counting by 2s, 5s, 10s, find the missing addend in subtraction
Learning Goals

-read words and stories with digraphs
-read words and stories with beginning blends

-improve their phonemic awareness (rhyming, blending, segmenting)

Other Details

Parental Guidance
This class will use some Google apps such as Jamboard and Google Slides. Google does not allow children under 13 to create their own accounts. It is recommended that parents set up a Google account for their learner using family link. Students will be accessing Jamboard and Google slides during class time.
