Sometimes it's easy to get ideas on the page, but it's much more difficult to figure out how to arrange them so that they'll make sense to the reader. It can be hard to find out where paragraphs should be broken, what order to put them in, and how to show the relationship between thoughts. Using an outline is one strategy to help writers organize their ideas. A reverse outline can be used to help them organize after they have already written a draft. In this class, we'll discuss both approaches. Then writers will have time to practice. If learners already have writing that they're working on for another class, they can bring their drafts of brainstorms to this session. If not, they can use a sample prompt for the in-class activity. Learners will be asked to share their work via screen share and can write in whatever software or website works best for them. This class is part of my Writer's Workshop Series. It is offered sequentially so that writers can get hands-on help for every stage of the writing process. Learners can jump in at any time and participate in just the sessions that are relevant to their needs.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I LOVE teaching writing! I have been teaching people to write for the past ten years, mostly as a college professor but also in high school programs and after school programs for elementary students. Writing is my passion because I think that it gives people the opportunity to have their voice heard and see their thoughts in a way that allows them to become clearer thinkers with more confidence in their ideas.
My teaching philosophy is that everyone can write because everyone has something to say that’s worth hearing. I have worked with college students in classes ranging from remedial to honors, and my philosophy is the same: treat students with respect, value what they have to say, and help them say it well.
