US Grade 7 - 8
Beginner Level
In this class, the students will review, learn, and problem solve with math skills that they will utilize in Pre-Algebra. The class will begin with review exercises, which will be checked at the beginning of the class. The teacher will then introduce the new material, through notes, slides, and problems worked on a document camera. The teacher will present the new material, then work with the students collaboratively on the problems, with the end goal having the students work the problems...

Unit 1Sets & IntegersSets & Integers6 lessons2 WeeksWeek 1Lesson 1SetsMy lesson is about defining and identifying what sets are in math. Then using that information and examples to explain, identify, list infinite, finite, disjointed, null, and equivalent sets.Lesson 2Adding IntegersMy lesson is about defining what integers are and identifying the positive and negative signs. The students will calculate math problems with integers by adding and applying the rules of having a positive or negative sign.Lesson 3Subtracting IntegersMy lesson is about subtracting integers with either both numbers having a negative sign or one integer possessing a negative sign.Week 2Lesson 4Multiplying IntegersMy lesson is about finding the product of two integers with different signs and multiplying more than two integers with different signs.Lesson 5Dividing IntegersMy lesson is about finding the quotient of two integers with different signs.Lesson 6Review Integer OperationsMy lesson is about reviewing all concepts in Lessons 1 through 5. The students will demonstrate their comprehension of the topics that were taught in the lessons.Unit 2Positive & Negative Fractions & DecimalsPositive & Negative Fractions & Decimals2 lessons1 WeekWeek 3Lesson 7Positive and Negative FractionsMy lesson is about applying the rules of integers to positive and negative fractions.Lesson 8Positive and Negative DecimalsMy lesson is about applying the rules of integers to positive and negative decimals.Unit 3Exponents & Square RootsExponents & Square Roots4 lessons2 WeeksWeek 3Lesson 9ExponentsMy lesson is about defining and identifying parts, and calculating number with exponents. Also, the lesson will include how to rewrite numbers as exponents.Week 4Lesson 10Square RootMy lesson is about the student identifying the square root sign and solving math problems involving the square root sign.Lesson 11Problem Solving with Exponents and Square RootsMy lesson is using concepts taught in Lessons 9 and 10 on how to solve numerical problems that contain exponents and square roots.Lesson 12Review Exponents and Square RootsMy lesson is about reviewing all concepts taught in Lessons 9 through 11. The students will demonstrate their comprehension of the topics that were taught in the lessons.Unit 4Order of Operations & Properties of NumbersOrder of Operations & Properties of Numbers3 lessons1 WeekWeek 5Lesson 13Order of OperationsMy lesson is about following the correct order of operations when simplifying an expression. Students will learn to evaluate, eliminate, and calculate in order from left to right.Lesson 14Properties of Numbers: Name That PropertyMy lesson is about students naming the mathematical properties of a set of numbers.Lesson 15Properties of Numbers: Problems SolvingMy lesson is about students using the mathematical properties to complete statements with correct answers.Unit 5Scientific Notation & ReviewScientific Notation & Review3 lessons1 WeekWeek 6Lesson 16Scientific NotationMy lesson is about the student defining scientific notation, and converting numbers to scientific notations.Lesson 17Scientific Notation: ConversionsMy lesson is about converting numbers from scientific notations to numbers.Lesson 18Review and Q&AMy lesson is about reviewing Lessons 1 through 17, to gauge the student's comprehension of the concepts covered in the lessons. A 20 questions assessment will also be presented.
Students will learn the math concepts that will be utilized in Pre-Algebra. With practice and review in each class, students will not only master those skills, but also maintain and reinforce those skills consistently. Skills learned in this class apply to all areas of the curriculum.
