Guten Tag! I teach German on Outschool, and I’d love for you to take this Sampler Class with me. The Sampler Class is perfect for all kinds of learners: + Do you only know a few words like “Guten Tag” and “eins, zwei, drei”? No problem! This could be the class that gets you started on an exciting language-learning journey! + Have you studied German with Duolingo, in a class on Outschool, or elsewhere? Great! In this class, you’ll use your best educated-guessing skills to decipher some new German words like these: der Eisbär das Lampenfieber der Regentropfen In class, we’ll do some basic vocabulary exercises, discuss the similarities between German & English, and look at some German words that are fun puzzlers. Read below for more details. I hope you’ll join me for the class! --Dr. Jennifer ------------ ------------ ------------ THE SELF-PACED FORMAT This is a self-paced class, which means there are no live meetings on Zoom. Instead, you work your way through the pre-recorded, pre-written learning materials posted in the classroom (videos + worksheet). You can go through the class at whatever pace works best for you. - If you finish early, great—you can move on to your next German class! - If you need more time, no problem. Just let me know. If you have questions as you are working on the material, you can message me at any time. The class will probably take you around 60 minutes to complete. ------------ LEARNING MATERIALS Here’s what you’ll do in the class: 1 – You’ll watch three interactive videos leading you through a vocabulary-building exercise, a picture-based activity from the textbook Kontakte, a discussion of the similarities between German & English, and a word-guessing activity (10-15 minutes each) 2 – You’ll complete a word-guessing worksheet (15-20 minutes) ------------ LANGUAGE Language of Instruction: English Language of Materials & Activities: German ------------ GERMAN FOR HIGH SCHOOLERS I offer a five-year curriculum for high schoolers interested in developing fluency in German. In my classes, students get high-quality language instruction and enjoy time together in a lively classroom environment. These are academic classes that span the full school year and can be used for high school credit. The class is designed for learners ages 13-18. (If you have an almost-13-year-old interested in joining, we can probably make that work. Send me a message and let’s talk.) You can see the German 1, German 2, and German 3 classes here: https://outschool.com/search?q=bjornstad. Check out the descriptions, watch the videos, and message me if you have any questions. I also have 1-on-1 Open House sessions if you’d like to meet live: https://outschool.com/classes/german-placement-assessment-open-house-8GBQiwIM
