This is a fun game/project style class. Each week we will touch on a different topic/area of Geometry either through a hands-on craft or project, or a game. The topics covered will always be introduced before students are expected to interact with them, or explained along the way as they make sense. Themes cover the vocabulary and topics typically taught in grades 4&5. Lesson topics will be somewhat fluid, I give students the opportunity to request specific topics each week, and we often take a vote. Some of the topics we will touch on are: Geometry basics (shape attributes). Geometry terms (words that are specific to geometry like point, line, parallel, perpendicular, etc.) Area and Perimeter (and a tiptoe into volume) Attributes of plane shapes (2 dimensional shapes, polygons) Attributes of solid figures (3 dimensional objects) Classifying polygons and 3D shapes Creating 3D figures using Nets and using the nets to solve surface area and volume The Cartesian Grid (graphing points an objects in all 4 quadrants of the coordinate grid) Lines, Rays, and Angles Triangles (types, categorizing, comparing) This class was created as a second step from my Introductory Geometry Game Hour. If your learner has spent at least a few weeks in that class, or has a great geometry foundation, they will succeed in this class. Projects will be discussed the week before and a list of materials and supplies sent out to parents ahead of time. There will always be an alternative game or project for any learner who cannot get the materials necessary. Learning Goals
Students will have fun with math concepts and find real world applications for otherwise abstract concepts.
Some specific content we cover:
* Students learn to identify and classify shapes based on attributes
* Students learn to use a hierarchy to categorize quadrilaterals and triangles
* Students develop fluency with the basic language of Geometry
* Students get a deeper understanding of the Cartesian Grid (Coordinate Plane)
* Students learn to read points on the plane
* Students learn to graph points on the plane
* Students learn to graph objects with specific attributes on the plane
* Students develop an interest in learning more about Geometry
Other Details
Supply List
We often draw things out or write down bits for problem solving, so paper and pencil/pen are good to have on hand for every class. Any other materials needed for any specific game or project will be posted no later than the morning of class, but usually several days before class. Many games will require printed material, but I will always provide an alternate way to participate for those who do not have access to a printer.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hey Outschool families, I'm so glad you found my little corner of Outschool!
I love to teach middle school math to learners here. I work hard to keep learning fun, engaging, and when possible-challenging.
I've been teaching math for more than 2 decades, as a tutor, homeschool teacher, and homeschool mom. My all time favorite branch of mathematics is Geometry because it's so tangible, we can see it around us every day. But I also love the puzzle nature of Algebra and have a way to pass that on to my students.
I believe that every person can be a math person, even if they don't think they are right now. They just need to experience the challenging topics and skills in a way that makes sense to their unique brain. I see every one of my learners as a Unique Math Mind, and it's a privilege and a pleasure to help them see it too.
While I focus on Math, because that's the subject I love most, I am working on some classes that utilize math but aren't math focused. I love to garden and can my produce, so I'm working on something in that area. I'm also a quilter, and there's a TON of math involved with that sewing skill that I'd love to share. Actually, swing in general may pop up here soon.
I also will be adding some life skills classes very soon. My college degree is the brain based background to how we learn and things that make learning a challenge. I am also a late diagnosed ADHD brain, who struggled with a lot of things and developed a lot of skills and strategies that got me through my school years. So I'll be adding some study skills, planning, and journaling classes that will focus on our unique brains and relieving test and school anxiety.
