Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 3
Have you seen the little man in the map? Go ahead, take a look. Did you find him? Well, he's there and he has clues to help us learn the location of all 50 states in the United States.

In this 2-week club, students will use visual clues to help them locate and recall the location of the 50 states. Each class they will listen to a read-aloud of a portion of the book, The Little Man In The Map, and use the visual clues from the text to locate and color the states on a map. With help from the little man in the map, MIM, the states come alive! Our brains remember images much easier than words. With the use of visual images and rhyme throughout the story the students will have fun learning the 50 states!

The students will need a blank map (provided by the teacher) and their favorite colored pencils, crayons or markers.

Class 1: Introduction to the man in the map (Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana)
Class 2: 12 Midwestern States
Class 3: 4 South Central States
Class 4: 12 Southeastern States
Class 5: 9 Northeastern States
Class 6: 13 Western States

A blank map of the U.S.A plus your imagination are all you need to learn the states--all 50 of them!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hey there parents! My name is Tara, and I can't wait to be your child's next Outschool teacher. I live in a small town outside of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and I'm a homeschool mom of two energetic boys who are 10 and 7 years old.

I believe that children learn best by doing. My classes will be fun, engaging and hands on. I have a passion for reading, travel, health and wellness as well as cooking yummy meals and treats with my boys. My classroom is a welcoming environment that is geared towards all learning styles and personalities.

I have over 18 years of teaching experience including 7 years of in classroom teaching where I worked as a special education teacher for students in grades K-8, 6 years of online teaching experience teaching ESL to students around the world and 5 years of homeschooling my own children. I earned my B.A. Degree in Special Education and my Masters Degree in Education with a Reading Specialist certification.

For the past 10 years I have been a work from home mom. I love learning and sharing what I learn with others. Our family recently started fostering dogs and that definitely gets us outside and active a lot!

I am so excited to have you considering one of my classes. If you enjoy me as your teacher, please feel free to request new types of classes and follow my profile to get notified when I make new classes available!

See you in my classroom soon,
Tara Nistico
