🔻November 2024 will include the following:
Week of 11/3: Zabuyelite
Week of 11/10: Vulcanite
Week of 11/17: Tenorite
Week of 11/24: Cleveite

This is a live class that meets weekly. Students may join in at any week.
*Please note that this class occasionally runs 5 minutes late, as I allow students to converse and show each other projects they wish to share afterwards. Students are free to leave at ending time or stay with me in class. This outlet is beneficial to those who enjoy the social aspect.

Whether a variation of Quartz, or how a mineral creates a hue of color, we will discuss the stone/crystal/mineral and decide what characteristics it may give our custom dragons/creatures. Student input is encouraged.

Petrology is the study of rocks - igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary - and the processes that form and transform them. Mineralogy is the study of the chemistry, crystal structure and physical properties of the mineral constituents of rocks. We will have brief discussions while planning our Dragon.

We will discuss, design and sculpt one specific Gemstone, Rock, Crystal or Mineral based dragon per class. Each natural stone has unique qualities, which will be incorporated into our design sculpture. Student input is encouraged.

We will have the opportunity to play a game of Gartic Phone, Time To Climb, Kahoot, or Zoom Draw.

Students are encouraged to take a basic sculpting class or have some experience sculpting.

Supplies Recommended:
Your choice of sculpting material (I will be using Polymer Bake Clay) in a variety of colors - check the week’s theme
Note: polymer clay in “Translucent” makes great wings and marbling for those translucent gemstones!
Basic sculpting tools, rolling pin
You may use wire or pins if you would like, but we will not be creating a skeleton together.

Some ideas to use:
Any Glass, Metal, Stone, or Crystal findings that you may want to add to your sculpts. Plastic CANNOT be baked!
Also, Mica Powders make amazing effects for these type of dragons! I use them often :)
Learning Goals

I teach a variety of Art classes on Outschool and in person. Many of my classes are Polymer Clay Miniatures, from beginner to intermediate.

All images were sculpted by me, Lori King.

I LOVE to travel and pick up stones and crystals from wherever I go, unique to that part of the globe. I use these findings in class and will occasionally change a theme based on the artifact I brought home. Examples are Lava Rock and black sand from Iceland, Larimar from Punta Cana, etc.
