In this ongoing class, learners will study poems each week from the AQA Poetry Anthology for GCSE English Literature. Every two weeks we will take one of the poetry anthology poem, read it and discuss it, making notes on the poem's meaning, context, and the any imagery we can see. In Week One of the poem we will read through the poem, look at any contextual information surrounding it, and discuss our initial thoughts. In Week Two of the poem we will dig a little deeper and consider what meaning the writer intended the poem to have, how it fits into the Power and Conflict category, and understand how the poem impacted the world. At the end of each cycle of poems, we will have two weeks where we look at how to compare poems, to prepare you for your GCSE examination questions. Learners will have the opportunity to write about the poem with optional homework questions being given out each week. Learners may submit their responses for grading. Learners may join this class at any time, even if they miss Week One of any poem. While content does build, it is still possible to join at any point, since we cover similar strategies each week.
